What F6E1 means
F6E1 is a communication code on every Whirlpool dryer type, with slightly different wording. On WED / WGD electric and gas dryers, including Cabrio and Duet, there may be a problem with the main control board, the touchpad, or the wiring between them. On a laundry tower, the dryer section lists control communication; on the compact ventless tower the maker gives only a five-minute power reset. On the all-in-one washer-dryer WFC8090GX it means the electronics are not communicating.
Common causes of F6E1
- Wiring and connectors between the main control and the panel
- Main control board response
- User interface (touchpad) condition
- Power stability at start-up
1. On a WED / WGD dryer, switch the breaker off for one minute, on again, then start a timed dry cycle and watch it for one minute. 2. On a ventless tower or the washer-dryer, unplug it for at least five minutes. 3. On a laundry tower, disconnect power for one minute. 4. If F6E1 returns, schedule service.
- Board, panel and harness give the same signal on the display, so we test them one by one
- We check the link before suggesting a new control
- Written pricing comes first, and we tell you if an older unit is better replaced than repaired
Other Dryer codes
What does communication failure mean on a dryer?
Two electronic parts are not exchanging messages. That could be the control board, the panel or the wiring between them. F6E1 does not say which, so the testing starts with the link.
Why is the reset time different on each model?
The WED / WGD dryers list one minute at the breaker, towers list one minute without power, and the ventless tower and washer-dryer list five minutes unplugged. Follow the time for your unit type.
Will F6E1 go away on its own?
It may disappear after a reset, but if the cause is a marginal connection it usually returns. A repeat code is the cue to book a visit.
