What F1 means
F1 on a Whirlpool built-in microwave or microwave drawer, such as model WMC50522AS, tells you the control found a problem that may be in the oven temperature sensor, the control itself, or the wiring between them. It is the short form of the older F01 code and follows the same guidance. The display shows F1 and the oven may stop heating or refuse a new cycle. The code does not prove that any part has failed.
Common causes of F1
- Oven temperature sensor
- Control board
- Wiring and connectors in the sensor circuit
1. Switch the circuit breaker for the microwave off and wait one minute. 2. Switch it back on. 3. Stay near the oven for a minute and check that F1 does not return. 4. If the display is clear, run a short cycle to verify operation. 5. If F1 shows again, stop using the oven until it is checked.
- We separate a poor sensor reading from a control that misreads it by testing the sensor circuit.
- An F1 that appears only after the oven warms up suggests a connection that changes with heat.
- The price is in writing before we start.
Other Microwave codes
Does F1 point to a different part than F01?
On these built-in models the guidance is the same: oven temperature sensor, control and wiring. The different format does not point to a different part.
Does F1 ever clear by itself?
A reset can clear a brief glitch. If F1 returns, the circuit still has a problem, and we test it to find out whether it is the sensor, the control or the wiring.
What will you check first?
We start with the sensor reading and its connector, because those are the simplest to confirm, then the control. We tell you the result before pricing the repair.
Still seeing F1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
