What F0E4 means

F0E4 is shown on two kinds of Whirlpool cooktops. On electric radiant (smoothtop) models such as the WCE55US6HS, it means an internal communication error on the touch control module. On induction models such as the WCI55US0JS, no cause is published, only an instruction to disconnect the cooktop from power, wait a few seconds, reconnect it, and call for service if the code persists. Neither version is a cookware message.

Common causes of F0E4

  • Touch control module losing communication on a smoothtop model
  • Control alert on an induction model that a power reset clears
  • Loose connection or aging circuit behind the keypad
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn every surface control or zone off. 2. On either type, switch the cooktop's breaker off for about a minute. 3. Switch it back on. 4. Look at the display after sixty seconds. 5. If F0E4 returns, write the code down and keep the cooktop off.

! Why to stop there
  • If F0E4 survives a reset, we test the touch control and the connection behind it.
  • We confirm which type of cooktop you have, since the likely cause differs.
  • The price is quoted in writing first, and we give a 30-day workmanship warranty on the repair.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F0E4F0E4 questions
Is F0E4 a pan problem?

No. On smoothtop cooktops it is a communication error inside the touch control, and on induction models it is an internal alert. Changing the pan will not clear it.

Why does the power reset sometimes help?

It restarts the electronics and can clear a brief communication hiccup. If the problem is a worn connection, F0E4 returns and the cooktop needs repair.

Can I use the cooktop between resets?

Controls that cannot be trusted to talk to each other might not respond when you try to switch a burner off. Please leave it off until it has been checked.
