What E_2 means
E_2 on a Whirlpool induction cooktop, for example the WCI55US0JS, usually points at the cookware. Induction needs ferromagnetic pans: enameled steel, cast iron, or stainless steel made for induction. A pot the cooktop cannot sense, or one whose base is only partly magnetic, can bring up the code. Check the pan first, because the cooktop itself is often fine. A pan that looks perfectly good on a gas or coil range can still be useless on induction.
Common causes of E_2
- Pan made of a non-magnetic material such as plain aluminum or glass
- Pan with only part of the base in magnetic metal
- Base diameter that does not match the cooking zone
- Sensing circuit that cannot detect a suitable pan
1. Turn the zone off and set the pan aside. 2. Hold a magnet to the bottom of the pan. If it does not grab, the pan will not work on induction. 3. Try a pan with a flat, fully magnetic base that fits the zone. 4. Turn the breaker off for one minute and back on. 5. Let the cooktop cool, then check whether E_2 returns.
- If a magnetic pan still brings up E_2, the zone may not be detecting cookware, and we test that coil.
- We try the same pan on each zone to learn whether one or all are affected.
- A written price comes before any work, and we back repairs with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Cooktop codes
How can I tell whether my pan is induction-safe?
Stick a magnet to the base. If it holds firmly, the pan is magnetic. Quality and base structure also change performance, so a magnetic pan can still heat unevenly.
Why does a half-magnetic pan cause trouble?
Some pans have a magnetic disc in only part of the base. Those areas heat at different levels, and the cooktop may refuse to run.
What if every pan gives E_2?
That test saves you a visit if it turns out to be something simple on our side of the check. That narrows down which part needs attention.
Still unsure about E_2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
