What F0 or F00 means
F0 or F00 on a Whirlpool electric radiant (smoothtop) cooktop, such as the WCE97US0KS, means something is pressing on the touch control panel. An object left on the control area, a spill, or soil on the glass can all do it, and the cooktop reads the pressure as a held key. The fix is usually to clear and clean the panel, then reset the power. It rarely needs a part.
Common causes of F0 or F00
- Object resting on the control area
- Liquid or soil pressing on the touch keys
- Touch control that senses a key that is not pressed
1. Turn the cooktop off and take everything off the control area. 2. Wipe away any debris or spills from the panel. 3. Turn the breaker off for one minute, then on. 4. A minute later, check that the display is clean. 5. Keep towels, pans and utensils off the controls from now on.
- If F0 returns on a clean, empty panel, the touch control may be sensing a key that is not there, and we test it.
- We look for moisture under the glass edge near the keys.
- We tell you the price in writing first, and a 30-day workmanship warranty covers the repair.
Other Cooktop codes
Why does a spill cause F0?
Liquid on the glass can look like a finger to the touch keys. The control then thinks a key is held down and stops. Wipe the panel dry and reset.
F0 and F00 look different. Are they the same?
The steps are identical, so use whichever your display shows. The cause is the same, and so is the cleaning routine. Either one points to pressure on the touch panel.
What if the panel is spotless?
Then the keypad itself may be misreading touches. We check the touch control and its wiring before replacing anything, and tell you what we find.
