What H2O means
H2O on the display of a Whirlpool built-in dishwasher, such as the WDF330PAHB, means the machine is not detecting water coming in. The control sent the command to fill, but the tub never registered water, so the cycle is held. It reports the same condition as F8E1. In most homes the cause is simple, like a closed supply valve or a kinked hose, and the fix takes a minute.
Common causes of H2O
- Supply valve under the sink closed or partly closed
- Water supply hose kinked behind the dishwasher
- Inlet valve not passing water
- Water sensing in the tub
1. Check that the water supply to the dishwasher is turned on. 2. Look along the supply hose for kinks, especially where it bends behind the unit. 3. After correcting the supply, press Start. The dishwasher will try to fill and then resume the cycle. 4. If H2O stays and no water enters, stop and call us.
- With the supply open and the hose straight, the inlet valve and water sensing are the remaining suspects
- Low water pressure in the home can also keep the tub from registering water
- We check the whole fill path and give a written price first
Other Dishwasher codes
Is H2O an error or just a message?
It is the dishwasher telling you it cannot detect water. Treat it as an error that is often easy to fix by opening the supply or straightening the hose.
Will the cycle continue by itself after I fix it?
Press Start once the supply is corrected. The dishwasher will attempt to fill and pick the cycle back up, so you do not have to start over.
What if H2O comes back after I checked everything?
Then the inlet valve or the water sensing may be involved. Those need testing, which we do on a visit, and you see the written price before work starts.
Still seeing H2O?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
