Disposer Repair in Houston
Whirlpool disposers can jam, hum, leak or fail to start. We free a stuck unit, test the motor and check the seals, and tell you plainly when replacement is the better route.
Common disposer problems we fix
In the order we see them across Houston homes.
Hums but the grinder will not turn
Leaks from the bottom or the sink flange
Does not start at all
Drain backs up with slow draining
Loud grinding or metallic rattling
Reset button keeps tripping
Whirlpool disposers mount under the kitchen sink and grind food waste with a spinning plate driven by a motor. A hopper, a flange, a drain connection and often a dishwasher inlet link them to the sink and the plumbing, and a reset switch protects the motor from overheating.
Houston kitchens place a lot of demand on them. Grease and starchy food form clogs in the drain, hard water scales the seals, and a unit under a sink that gets hot and wet will corrode over the years. A disposer that has hummed and jammed repeatedly is usually near the end of its life.
We check the power, the reset, the grinder, the flange and the drain connections in order. We repair the appliance and its connections; larger plumbing changes, such as moving or replacing a drain line, are a job for a plumber.

My disposer hums but does not spin. What now?
It is likely jammed. Turn off the power, then use the wrench slot under the unit to turn the grinder back and forth, or remove an object with tongs. Press the reset button. If it still hums, the motor or a part may be failing.
Why is my disposer leaking?
Leaks come from the sink flange, a hose connection, the dishwasher inlet or a cracked housing. A loose flange can be resealed, but a leaking housing means replacement. We trace the water to its source before deciding.
Is it better to repair or replace a disposer?
A jam, a loose flange or a hose is usually worth repairing. A seized or leaking motor on an older unit is generally cheaper to replace than to repair, and we say so. New installations that involve new plumbing work may need a plumber.
