GC2000XE
Whirlpool GC2000XE Under-Sink Disposer Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Overload protector tripping and needing the manual reset
- Grinding wheel jammed by a hard object
- Leak at the mounting flange or drain connection
- Motor humming without turning
The GC2000XE is a Whirlpool under-sink disposer. It is a 1/2 HP continuous-feed unit running at 1,725 RPM on a 120 V, 60 Hz supply. It has a galvanized steel grinding wheel and shredder ring and an overload protector with a manual reset.
That reset is the first thing we look at when a disposer goes dead. A tripped protector often means the wheel was jammed, so we clear the jam, let the motor cool, press the reset and then run it. If it trips again right away, we check the motor and the supply. We also look at the flange and drain connection for leaks, which are common on units under a Houston kitchen sink.
We confirm the full number from the unit label before ordering a part. A written price comes first, and the work carries a 30-day warranty.
Key features
- 1/2 HP continuous-feed, 1,725 RPM
- Galvanized steel grinding wheel and shredder ring
- Overload protector with manual reset
- 120 V 60 Hz supply
My disposal stopped and will not start. What do I try?
Turn it off, then press the manual reset on the unit. If it starts, a jam probably tripped the protector. If it trips again, call us so we can check the motor and the supply.
What happens if a hard object gets into the grinder?
The wheel can jam and trip the overload protector. We shut the power, free the wheel, inspect the shredder ring and check for leaks at the housing before we put the unit back in service.
Does the 120 V supply matter during a repair?
Yes. We confirm power reaches the unit through the switch and outlet before testing the motor. A dead disposer sometimes turns out to be the switch or the cord, which costs less than a motor.
