What F9E1 means
A Whirlpool built-in dishwasher, for example the WDT750SAHZ, shows F9E1 when draining takes too long. The control expected the water to leave the tub within a set time, and it did not. Most often the path out is restricted by a clogged filter, a kinked or pinched drain hose, or a sink disposer whose knockout plug was never removed. Owners see standing water in the tub and the cycle paused or stopped.
Common causes of F9E1
- Clogged filter at the bottom of the tub
- Kinked, pinched, or clogged drain hose
- Disposer connection with the knockout plug still in place
- Drain pump not moving water
1. Remove the filter and clean it thoroughly under running water. 2. Check the drain hose from the back of the dishwasher to the sink for kinks, pinches, or clogs. 3. If connected to a disposer, make sure the disposer is clear and that the knockout plug was removed. 4. Cycle the power: unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in, then resume the cycle. 5. If it will not drain, stop and call us.
- A clean filter and open hose leave the drain pump and its circuit as the next suspects
- Standing water can hide the actual blockage point
- We test the drain path and pump, then quote in writing with a 30-day workmanship warranty

Why is there standing water with F9E1?
F9E1 means the water did not leave in time. A dirty filter, a kinked drain hose, or a disposer plug that was never knocked out are the usual causes, and each is worth checking first.
What is the disposer knockout plug?
New disposers have a small plug that blocks the dishwasher inlet until removed. If it was left in, the dishwasher cannot drain into the disposer. We can check and remove it during a visit.
Can I run the dishwasher again after cleaning?
Yes, after cleaning the filter, straightening the hose, and cycling power, you can resume. If water still stays in the tub, stop, because the drain pump may need testing.
