What Sabbath Mode means
Sabbath Mode is a setting on Whirlpool built-in wall ovens in the single, double and microwave-combination styles, such as the WOS51EC0HS, and it is not an error. The oven stays on in a Bake setting until you turn it off. Only Bake works, every other cooking and cleaning cycle is disabled, no tones sound, and the display does not follow temperature changes. The control may show Sabbath, Sab, 5A6 or 5Ab.
Common causes of Sabbath Mode
- Sabbath Mode turned on from the control on purpose
- Sabbath Mode turned on by an accidental key sequence
1. Check the display for Sabbath, Sab, 5A6 or 5Ab. 2. Open your owner's manual to the Sabbath Mode section and follow its steps to turn the mode off. 3. Do not expect the light or the elements to react at once when you open the door in this mode. 4. After turning it off, try a normal bake.
- If Sabbath Mode will not turn off by the manual's steps, the control may not be accepting key presses.
- We test the keypad and control response before suggesting a part.
- A written price is given first, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Wall Oven codes
Is Sabbath Mode a problem with my oven?
No. It is a deliberate setting that keeps the oven in Bake without tones or display changes. Nothing is broken when the oven behaves this way in this mode.
Why will my oven not start a clean cycle?
In Sabbath Mode all cooking and cleaning cycles except Bake are disabled. The oven also ignores most keys, except Start, Cancel and Off. Turn the mode off first.
Can an old oven get stuck in Sabbath Mode?
It can if the keypad is worn or a key sticks. If the manual's steps do nothing, we test the touchpad and the control, and we say plainly if repair is not worth it.
Still unsure about Sabbath Mode?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
