What F5E5 means
F5E5 means different things on two kinds of Whirlpool oven. On freestanding and slide-in ranges such as the WFE515S0ES, the oven did not reach self-clean temperature within 30 minutes, and the door hinges or door gasket are the areas to look at. On built-in wall ovens such as the WOS51EC0HS, it names the oven door latch assembly, the door switch, or the wiring. The display shows F5E5 and the cycle stops.
Common causes of F5E5
- Door hinges or gasket letting heat escape on a range
- Door latch assembly on a wall oven
- Door switch and wiring on a wall oven
1. Let the oven cool fully. 2. Shut the door and look for a torn gasket, a gasket pushed out of place, or a door hanging crooked. 3. Switch the circuit off at the panel for a minute, then on. 4. Watch the display for a minute and test the oven or the cycle that stopped.
- A reset does not tell us whether the range lost heat or the wall oven latch misread the door.
- On a range we check door fit, gasket and hinges, then the heating.
- On a wall oven we test the latch and switch, then the wiring, and quote in writing first.
Other Wall Oven codes
Why would a range show F5E5 during self-clean?
The oven did not reach cleaning temperature in the time allowed. Heat escaping around a worn gasket or sagging hinge can be why, so we check the door seal first.
Is F5E5 on a wall oven also about heat?
No. On a wall oven it points to the door latch, the door switch and the wiring. The door state is what the control is unsure about.
Can I try another self-clean?
Only after the oven has cooled and the door is seated properly. If F5E5 returns, repeated cleans will not help. Stop and have us check the door, latch and heating.
