What F4 E1 means
On Whirlpool built-in wall ovens with a microwave section, including the WOC54EC7HS, F4 E1 refers to the thermistor, the Appliance Manager, or the wiring connected to them. The oven does not tell you which. You will see F4 E1 on the display, and the microwave section may refuse to run or may stop part of the way through a cycle.
Common causes of F4 E1
- Thermistor in the microwave section
- Appliance Manager control
- Harness and connector between them
1. At the panel, turn the oven's power off for a minute. 2. Turn it on once more. 3. Spend a minute near the display and see whether F4 E1 reappears. 4. If not, try the oven and the microwave.
- The reset cannot show whether the thermistor or the manager is behind F4 E1.
- We test the thermistor reading and the manager separately.
- Connectors get a close look since a loose pin can imitate a failed part.

What does the Appliance Manager do?
It is the control that coordinates the microwave section. If it receives an odd reading from the thermistor or has a wiring problem, it can post F4 E1.
Is a thermistor the same as a temperature sensor?
In this use, yes, it is a small temperature-sensing part that the control reads. A thermistor with a poor connection can send the wrong reading, so we check the connector too.
Do I need to stop using the microwave?
If F4 E1 returns after the reset, yes, we suggest stopping until we test it. The control may be blocking microwave operation for a reason we should confirm.
