Trash Compactor Repair in Houston
Whirlpool trash compactors can stop compacting, jam, rattle or leave odors. We check the drawer, drive, switches and ram, and tell you plainly whether the unit can reasonably be repaired.
Common trash compactor problems we fix
In the order we see them across Houston homes.
Ram does not move or stops partway
Drawer sticks or will not close
Motor hums without compacting
Strong odor despite fresh bags
Key switch or controls do nothing
Loud grinding or squeaking
Whirlpool trash compactors sit under the counter, where a motor and drive turn a screw or chain to push a ram down into a bin and press the contents. A key switch and a drawer switch keep it from running when it should not, and many models use a replaceable bag and a deodorizer.
Moisture, food residue and spilled liquid are the principal enemies in Houston kitchens. They rust the ram, corrode switches and wiring and leave odors that cleaners do not fix. Heavy use in a household with many people strains the chain, gears and motor, and many compactors have been in place since the home was built.
We check the drawer, the switches, the drive and the motor, then the ram and its guides. For an older compactor we tell you whether parts are available and whether the repair is likely to last.

A 30-day workmanship warranty on every repair.
Why does my compactor hum but not press?
A jammed ram, a broken drive chain or gear, or a failed motor start part can cause this. Check that the drawer is closed and nothing is wedged. We test the drive and the motor to find which part has failed.
Why does the compactor smell even with a new bag?
Spilled liquid, residue on the ram and drawer and mold in the bin cause most odors. A thorough cleaning helps. The odor filter or deodorizer on some models also needs replacing. We can check these and the seals for leaks.
Are compactors still worth repairing?
Often, when the problem is a switch, a drawer part or a chain. Parts for older models can be harder to find, and a worn drive may not be sensible to replace. We explain which situation applies before work begins.
